Information for Lawyers The Virginia Bar Association is a voluntary, statewide professional organization of more than 5,500 lawyer and judicial members. Founded in July 1888, its goals remain the same today as they were at that time: "improving the law and the administration of justice and upholding the standard of honor and integrity in the legal profession." Often confused with the Virginia State Bar, which is the state regulatory agency with mandatory membership, The Virginia Bar Association invites voluntary membership from all licensed Virginia lawyers. Lawyers in good standing of the Bar in another state or the District of Columbia are eligible for membership. If you are new to the legal profession, or if you are a new member of the VBA, we have a special welcoming message for you! Be sure to visit our Young Lawyers Division page and review the opportunities for service and collegiality offered by one of the most active and honored young lawyers' organizations in the nation. Our new Law Practice Management Division is hard at work on programs designed to help attorneys enhance their professional practices and personal lives, and we offer 18 substantive law sections with opportunities for professional education, growth and networking. The Community Service Program encourages lawyers, judges, law students and administrators to serve their communities. We also have a FAQ for the general public. |
