For an annual dues payment of $25, here’s what you receive as a member of The Virginia ADR Joint Committee:
• Access to practical CLEs on advocacy and techniques in ADR to include mediation, arbitration, facilitation, early neutral evaluation, ombuds and negotiation
• A newsletter with information about recent ADR developments and practice tips
• Opportunities for networking and mutual assistance
• Participation in legislative processes

Interested in joining this dynamic group and learning more about the growing field of ADR? Join today by completing the information on the registration form (PDF format) and mailing it with your dues payment to the VBA office, which is the Committee’s administrative base.

This website includes lengthier articles, in PDF format, that may be useful to mediators, arbitrators and others interested in ADR in Virginia. Among the documents currently posted on the site:
• Jean Baker, “Arbitration in the State of Virginia: What Would Be the Impact of the RUAA?” (2004). This article summarizes the potential effect that adoption of the Revised Uniform Arbitration Act would have on arbitration law and practice in Virginia.
• Anne M. Devens, “Federal Versus State Arbitration Laws: Whose Law Applies and Why Does it Matter?” (2004). This article highlights the importance of choice of law provisions in arbitration agreements, given the Fourth Circuit’s holdings on what law applies to arbitrations.
• Samuel S. Jackson, “What is Confidential in Virginia Now?” (2002). This article, which was originally presented at a Virginia Mediation Network conference, outlines the law of confidentiality in mediation proceedings in Virginia.
